summer beach essentials

The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the summer holidays are two weeks away, so that means only one thing. It's time to get ready to hit the beach.

Today was a perfect opportunity to wear this coat I picked up in the January sales. A lovely sunny Sunday but with a chilly wind. We wanted to make the most of this glorious day so we had a wander round a beautiful gallery not too far from us.

I have a wardrobe full of maroon; it is my go to colour choice over the winter months. I paired it with a blue lace dress and my comfy and warm maroon boots. Lace dresses are a big favourite of mine, I find them very versatile and perfect for many occasions. If you read my blog you will know I have quite a selection! What other outfits do you think would work with this coat? I would love to hear your ideas.

After a lovely visit to the gallery we were feeling a little peckish and there is only one place I wanted to go and that was Marmadukes. This is one of my favourite little cafes to eat in and I would highly recommend it.

It is so quaint and funky inside and the sandwiches are just heaven! I can't wait to go back and try their eggs benedict. They even have blankets so you can sit outside when it is chilly. I love it!

how to wear a knitted crew jumper

I am so in love with crew jumpers right now. Perfect for layering in this chilly weather and let me tell you, it was a very cold day! You will be able to see from the photos how windy it was from the way my hair was blowing about!

Can you believe my daughter and fiancee both bought me this same jumper for Christmas but in different lengths! Great minds think alike! I must have mentioned that I liked them on more than one occasion. This is the one my daughter bought me as the shorter one didn't fit as well! I felt bad taking it back but I did manage to get a coat that I had been wanting in the sale with the refunded money, so all is good.

My fiancee bought me this lovely skirt and blouse for Christmas too. I was so happy with his choices, he knows me well! The blouse has such a gorgeous collar, giving the outfit a feminine look.

cape at christmas in broadway

Broadway. The Jewel of the Cotswolds! That is how some people refer to this beautiful village and I agree. A charming, magical place which holds a special place in my heart. I always get quite emotional when I visit here as it is still unspoilt and very beautiful. A piece of paradise.

Broadway dates back as far as the Roman times and at one time boasted thirty three public houses which there are still signs of today. Many of the limestone buildings date from the 16th century. The front doors of these lovely houses are just delightful in themselves.

This has to be my favourite row of houses in the village. Can you imagine living in one of these?

We came across this guy driving an Austin 7 racing car that he was restoring. He looked like he would have been at home in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'! He posed for us and we gladly took a photo of him as he said he didn't have any photos of him in his pride and joy! Then off he went with a cheery adieu in his German accent!

I wore my much loved cape for this trip. I have a real love for capes and own quite a few in different colours! I wore it with a soft, comfy pink sweater and jeans and my Zara scarf. I spotted the booties when I was out shopping with my daughter. We both fell in love with them so we both bought a pair!

We stayed all day browsing round the village and quaint, little shops. I wanted to see the Christmas lights before I went home and I'm so glad I did; just beautiful.

a chunky knit in chilly cheltenham

We finally managed to get away for our weekend break after a few hiccups! As you can see, the weather was very grey and drab! Just a typical December day in this part of the world! We chose to visit a spa town called Cheltenham mainly known for its horse racing.

There are a lot of lovely Regency type buildings, a lot of which are listed. I felt like I was on the set of Mary Poppins as the architecture was very similar to the Banks residence!

I knew it was going to be chilly so out came my big, chunky knit. I find it warmer than a coat and it is easy to layer up. I just throw a scarf on and I'm usually good to go! I bought this skirt earlier in the year and last wore it here. I'm hoping to get lots of wear out of it during the winter.

We had a wonderful lunch in a place called The Montpellier Brasserie which was delicious. I had goats cheese and beetroot risotto and Steve had chicken. It was such a lovely, relaxing environment; just what we wanted.

The rest of the day was spent browsing around some very cute shops and in the evening we enjoyed another lovely meal at a restaurant called Flynns. Delicious food, a warm and friendly atmosphere and gorgeous wine. What more can a girl ask for!

I would love to go again when its warmer to take advantage of all the lovely open spaces to sit and watch the day go by. I would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely town.

festive red

I always bring red out of my wardrobe at this time of year. A bright, festive colour perfect for this season. Red is definitely a favourite colour of mine and it has a way of giving me a boost if I'm having a down day.

I wore this dress for a trip to Leeds for the German Christmas market. I decided to go for a red and black theme. Although, when we got to the market, a lot of people were dressed in Christmas jumpers; it must be a tradition!

I can't tell you how comfortable these booties are. I could walk miles in them without getting aching feet. I love my funky booties. I'm thinking of getting myself another pair in a different colour.

We had a lovely time here and I would definitely recommend a trip to this market; so many goodies to be had. My favourite stall had to be the tools made out of chocolate. I stood drooling over the chocolate for a long time before moving on!

The only drawback it had was that it was so busy. The market attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and is one of the most established Christmas markets in the country. I didn't get many pictures of the wooden chalet stalls themselves because of the sheer amount of people. There were lots of handcrafted toys, jewellery and decorations. I hope these photos give you an idea of what it was like.

It has a lovely continental festive feel about it especially with all the colours and twinkling lights. They had my favourite fairground ride on offer too; the carousel.

I am going back soon to try all the different food that was on offer. I had my first pretzel filled with Camembert and cranberry which was delicious. So many food stalls and not enough time!

an outfit for an autumn walk

Isn't Autumn a lovely time of year? The colours everywhere are so beautiful here at the moment. As it was such a lovely morning we decided to take a stroll through the botanical gardens; a pleasant place for a walk and a picnic (when it's not raining of course).

I am in love with Peter Pan collar dresses. I spotted this one and knew straightaway I had to have it. Do you ever get that feeling when you see something you like, you just know it will look fine! Well, that's how I felt about this dress! I have another dress very similar to this which you can see here.

I have been waiting all summer to wear this chunky cardigan. I bought it in the sale earlier in the year to wear on days like this, cold but bright.

I also have an obsession with brogues, I love them. When I see them in a shop I stop a while and have a little drool! I am trying to collect a pair in every colour!

The beautiful restored Victorian glasshouses you can see in the background houses plant collections from different regions around the world and is so worth a visit. We were lucky enough to see a wedding taking place here a few weeks ago. It was beautiful.

He showed us a lovely picture he had painted and obviously took real joy from it. That's the kind of place it is here, friendly, pleasant and easygoing.

We finished the day off with a Starbucks festive gingerbread latte and a cranberry and orange muffin. Buy one, get one free too! It won't be long before I'm back!
